PETALING JAYA: Singapore-based Malaysian property tycoon Ong Beng Seng is expected to be charged tomorrow, according to a news report.
CNA reported that Ong is likely to be charged with abetting on one count each under Section 165 (public servant obtaining valuables) and Section 204A (obstructing justice) of the Penal Code.
Singapore court records also indicated that Ong is currently out on bail set at S$800,000.
The director of Hotel Properties Ltd was named in the initial graft charges against former Singaporean transport minister S Iswaran, who was sentenced to 12 months in prison today for receiving gifts worth over S$400,000 (US$309,000).
Allegations against Iswaran include receiving tickets to the 2022 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix, along with flights and accommodation in Doha, Qatar, from Ong, who is chairman of F1 race promoter Singapore GP.
These charges were later amended to lesser charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code for obtaining valuables from someone linked to him in an official capacity.
Iswaran previously pleaded guilty to four counts of receiving gifts and one of obstructing justice.
After Iswaran pleaded guilty last month, the Singapore attorney-generals chambers said it will take a decision on Ong.
